AUTOMATED WASTE SERVICES COMING TO UNIVERSAL CITY

Starting in March, Universal City residents will transition to an automated trash service. Please take a moment to go over the information to be up to date on coming changes. 

CART DELIVERY

During March 2022, Waste Management (WM) will deliver two 96-gallon wheeled poly carts to each residence. The cart with the green lid is for trash and yard waste. The second cart with a yellow lid is for recyclable materials. Once your carts are delivered, WM will only pick up the WM provided trash carts.

Residents can sign-up for an additional 96-gallon poly cart for a nominal monthly fee at the City Hall Water Billing window at 2150 Universal City Blvd, M-F, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. After the order has been processed, WM will deliver the additional poly cart in approximately 7 to 12 days. All carts come in a 96-gallon capacity.

Residents who have occasional excessive trash and yard waste can purchase pink tags at the City Hall Water Billing window which allows for the extra bags to be picked up by WM. Each additional bag must have a pink tag and placed next to the trash cart. Pink tags cannot be used for bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, etc. or hazardous waste. 


OLD TRASH CAN DISPOSAL  Once the WM provided poly carts are received, there are two options to dispose of your old trash and recycle bins.

  1. Place the old recycle bins and trash cans inside the new WM provided trash cart and it will be collected with regular collection.
  2. Or, place old empty bins and cans upside down at the curb and use a marker or sign to mark them as TRASH. If appropriately empty and marked, WM will remove old cans and bins for you. WM will not pick up resident provided cans or bins if they have trash in them; please ensure that they are EMPTY AND MARKED AS TRASH.


SERVICE SCHEDULE  The number of service days and the actual pick up days for trash and recycling will remain the same. The WM provided trash and recycling carts must be curbside by 7:00 AM on your service days.

LIMITED ALLEY SERVICE Only residents with a paved alley AND a rear entry garage will receive alley pick up trash services. All other service will be curbside. Trash carts will be delivered in the place they will be picked up for collection.

PINK TAGS Residents who have occasional excessive trash and yard waste can purchase pink tags for $2.14 (includes fee and tax) at City Hall which allows for the extra bags to be picked up by WM. One pink tag per bag; cannot be used for bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, etc. or hazardous waste.

BRUSH PICK-UP The monthly brush pickup at the curb has been discontinued. Brush pick-up will occur four times per year. You do not need to use a pink tag on bags of leaves during the Brush Pickup period.
