Green With Energy

Green with Energy

Several years ago, the City expressed a desire to reduce its dependency on energy sources that impact the environment.  Renewable energy, such as wind power, provided a reliable and affordable means to that end. When CPS Energy introduced its Windtricity program, the Universal City Council and staff eagerly embraced it and became a Windtricity partner.

Collaborating with CPS Energy, the City embarked on a campaign to educate its residents and businesses on the benefits of Windtricity. To date, 255 residents and businesses have joined the City in becoming Windtricity partners. Ten percent of the total electricity consumed in Universal City comes from clean wind energy. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Universal City’s collective green power purchase is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 500 passenger vehicles per year, or is the equivalent amount needed to power nearly 400 average American homes annually.

It is because of the combined efforts of citizens, business, and government that Universal City is celebrated as the first EPA Green Power Community in the State of Texas and one of only 28 cities nationwide.
