Our mission is to develop a beautiful, well maintained off-leash dog and people park open to all dog lovers and friends who are willing to follow the park's rules and restrictions. We hope to promote community spirit and pride in Universal City while raising awareness about the value of good health, exercise and the well-being of our furry friends.

Who Are We?
The Athenian Park Development Group consists of resident dog owners and interested parties who are eager to see an off-leash dog park become a reality. The group is a sub-committee of the Universal City Parks and Recreation Commission and a part of Parks Partners, a non-profit IRS approved 501 (C) (3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to the improvement of all Universal City Parks.
Why?
Off-leash dog parks are very successful around the country. A recent survey of citizens in Universal City found that there is strong public support for an off-leash dog park. Below are just some benefits that come with having an established off-leash dog park in our community:
- It provides a way to exercise dogs - so important to their health.
- It helps dogs gain socialization skills so they can learn to behave around other dogs and people.
- It provides an area for dog owning citizens to socialize with others in the community and collaborate/educate each other on dog related issues.
- As dog parks users learn expectations of proper clean-up and good dog behavior, more will take the good habits outside of the dog park (on other trails, neighborhoods, and parks in the city).
- It will help raise awareness of the proper care and treatment of dogs (proper licensing, vaccinations, exercise, etc.).
