Known as "Queen of Spices" it was first mentioned in ancient Indian texts around 3000 BC. The Greeks and Romans prized it as a perfume and aphrodisiac. Vikings encountered it in the bazaars of Constantinople, and brought it back to Scandinavia, where it first appeared in a cookbook around 1450. All of which explains why cardamom -- the same spice that flavors an Indian curry or chai tea -- can also be found in Swedish cardamon bread and gingerbread cookies. Carmen Flinn and Susan Ennis will be guides on this adventure. Do you have a cardamom recipe you love? Feel free to bring printed copies to share. Photo credit: © Evgeny Karandaev | Dreamstime.com
